An Integrated Framework for Modelling and Control of eP2P Interactions based on Model Predictive Control
The energy paradigm is undergoing substantial changes in recent years. In terms of
production, it is observable how distributed generation, with an ever-increasing
contribution from renewable sources, is displacing large concentrated generation plants.
But the fundamental change is not so much about energy supply as about diluting the
historical roles of producers and consumers to give way to the concept of prosumers.
That is, instead of just being energy consumers, households and industries also become
producers. In principle, the purpose of this production, which is inherently distributed,
is self-consumption. However, when there is a surplus of production, prosumers can
choose between storing the excess, if they have an energy storage system, or sell the
unused fraction of energy.
An obvious type of prosumers are those industries that have renewable generation
facilities and which, as a consequence of their production process, generate by-products
that can be used for cogeneration. In this case an obvious problem for the company is
to select at all times the power sources that minimize the cost of production, which is
known as Optimal Power Dispatch (OPD). If, in addition, the energy consumption time
profile of the manufacturing process (per unit of raw material introduced) is known, it
is also possible to make an optimal production schedule to minimize energy cost, which
is called Optimal Power Scheduling (OPS). Chapter 3 presents an Economic Model
Predictive Controller (EMPC) that simultaneously performs OPD and OPS using an
olive mill as an example.
The emergence of the role of energy prosumers makes it necessary to extend, improve
or replace the traditional mechanisms of energy exchange. This thesis includes novel
approaches for modelling the behaviour of prosumers. It also proposes new structures to
facilitate energy trading, always from the perspective of the peerification of the energy
paradigm. Thus, another line of research studies the establishment of peer-to-peer
(P2P) markets for the exchange of energy between heterogeneous prosumers (homes,
vehicles, intelligent buildings, etc.). The efficiency of markets based on both discrete
double auctions (DDAs) and continuous double auctions (CDAs) is compared. An
Energy Management System (EMS) is also introduced including market agent software
that allows the necessary tasks for participation in the auctions to be carried out automatically (determination of private valuation, role selection and price adaptation).
Chapter 4, Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 present some examples of such exchange markets
stablished between different types of prosumers: i) energy market for electric vehicles
that coincide parked in a large workplace, ii) power market for households within the
same neighbourhood and iii) integrated energy and power markets for heterogeneous
energy entities.
The evolution of aforementioned mechanisms and the appearance of new market
models must be accompanied by the development of control techniques that optimise
and automate all the processes related to energy saving and trading, by a group of
increasingly heterogeneous prosumers. This thesis deals with how different variants of
predictive controllers can contribute to this last aspect. For industries with cogeneration
capacity, the EMPC contributes to the optimal scheduling of production to maximise
the return from energy reuse, either through self-consumption or through the trading of
surpluses. The use of stochastic predictive control is proposed in order to maximise the
expected return on the participation of prosumers, whatever their type, in continuous
markets where the price of energy may undergo stochastic variations.
(Continuous Double Auctions - CDA).
A Stochastic MPC Based Energy Management System for Simultaneous Participation in Continuous and Discrete Prosumer-to-Prosumer Energy Markets
This article studies the exchange of self-produced renewable energy between prosumers
(and with pure end consumers), through the discrete trading of energy packages and proposes
a framework for optimizing this exchange. In order to mitigate the imbalances derived from
discrepancies between production and consumption and their respective forecasts, the simultaneous
continuous trading of instantaneous power quotas is proposed, giving rise to a time-ahead market
running in parallel with a real-time one. An energy management system (EMS) based on stochastic
model predictive control (SMPC) simultaneously determines the optimal bidding strategies for both
markets, as well as the optimal utilisation of any energy storage system (ESS). Simulations carried out
for a heterogeneous group of agents show that those with SMPC-EMS achieve savings of between 3%
and 15% in their energy operation economic result. The proposed structures allows the peer-to-peer
(P2P) energy trading between end users without ESS and constitute a viable alternative to avoid
deviation penalties in secondary regulation markets.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad ‘Retos Investigación 2016’ DPI2016-78338-
Preliminary in vivo characterization of a theranostic aptamer: Sgc8-c- DOTA-67Ga
Nucleic acid aptamers can recognise their target with high affinity and specificity, and their potential as molecular imaging agents and use in theranostics are being explored. Compared with antibodies, aptamers can be
easily synthesized and chemically modified, rendering them a valuable tool for in vivo approaches. Herein,
we investigated a 41nt DNA aptamer as a theranostic agent for lymphoma and melanoma. This aptamer exhibits specific binding and high affinity for the PTK7 receptor that is overexpressed in many cancer cells. A
5’-amino-derivative of the Sgc8-c aptamer was bound to the metal chelator DOTA (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane- 1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid) and labelled with the radionuclide 67Ga, forming the aptamer probe Sgc8- c-DOTA-67Ga. Different conditions during synthesis, purification and identification of the intermediate and final radiolabelled probe, were examined. Aptamer modification and radiolabelling were performed with high
yields, resulting in a probe that was stable in neutral buffered solution. Binding to PTK7 was studied in CCRFCEM, A20 and B16F1 cell lines, and in purified PTK7-1 receptor, to confirm specificity. The in vitro cell lines
showed different levels of uptake, and the signal increased over time. In vivo binding properties were studied
in A20 and B16F10 tumour-bearing mice and images were acquired using X-rays and gamma imaging modalities
for both models. Preliminary results in both tumour models showed good aptamer uptake by tumour.
Hepatobiliar metabolism was observed with Sgc8-c-DOTA-67Ga and no signal was detected in normal tissue.
In summary, these results support the utility of labelled aptamers as theranostic agents in different imaging
modalities and theranostic
Advances in scientific understanding of the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes: a review of contributing factors
The Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes (CVZA) has been the focus of volcanological research for decades, becoming a very important site to understand a number of volcanic processes. Despite most of the research in the CVZA being carried out by foreign scientists, the last two decades have seen a significant increase in contributions by regional researchers. This surge has been facilitated by the creation of new volcanic observatories, improvement of the monitoring networks, creation of postgraduate programs where new local volcanologists are trained, creation of specialized research nuclei or groups, and increasing investment in research. This article presents a review of the evolution of the contributions of the regional volcanological community to the knowledge of the CVZA in the last 20 years (2000–2019), both from research and monitoring institutions in Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile. Based on updates made by the regional groups, a new list of active/potentially active volcanoes of the CVZA is presented, as is a complete database for article published on the CVZA. We find that a significant motivator has been regional volcanic unrest that has triggered new investment. Perú is the country with the highest investment in monitoring and research and is the best instrumented, Argentina is the country with the highest number of local participation in published papers in the domain of volcanology and magmatic systems, and Chilean volcanoes are the focus of the highest number of articles published. The current situation and general projections for the next decade (2020–2030) are also presented for each country, where we believe that the over the next 10 years, will be increased the monitoring and research capabilities, improved the scientific knowledge with more participation of regional institutions, and strengthen the collaboration and integrated work between CVZA countries, especially in border volcanoes

Maize is one of the main sources in human nutrition. Thanks to its nutritional contribution, it is used in the crafted or traditional beverages preparation. Since there is little information on the beverage formulation and their behavior in emerging or traditional preservation treatments, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of thermosonication as a preservation treatment, and a pasteurization traditional treatment, on color, microbiological quality, physicochemical parameters and nutraceutical properties of white and purple maize beverages. The results show changes in color and physicochemical parameters (pH, titratable acidity and total solids) and content of microorganisms. No differences were observed in phenolic compounds (95.23-128.29 mg EAG/L), flavonoids (43.41-72.30 mg EC/L) and anthocyanins (0.89-1.20 mg EC3G/L). The white maize beverage had a higher ferulic acid content (45.77-48.90 mg / L), while the purple maize showed higher chlorogenic acid values (37.14- 39.58 mg/L), caffeic (33.26 mg/L) and antioxidant capacity of DPPH (311.48-384.78 μmol ET/L) and FRAP (1093.33-1566.67 μmol ET/L). In conclusion, pasteurization in maize beverages favored the increase of the antioxidant capacity and a greater efficiency in microbiological quality.
Pathophysiology of bone disease in chronic kidney disease : from basics to renal osteodystrophy and osteoporosis
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a highly prevalent disease that has become a public health problem. Progression of CKD is associated with serious complications, including the systemic CKD-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD). Laboratory, bone and vascular abnormalities define this condition, and all have been independently related to cardiovascular disease and high mortality rates. The "old" cross-talk between kidney and bone (classically known as "renal osteodystrophies") has been recently expanded to the cardiovascular system, emphasizing the importance of the bone component of CKD-MBD. Moreover, a recently recognized higher susceptibility of patients with CKD to falls and bone fractures led to important paradigm changes in the new CKD-MBD guidelines. Evaluation of bone mineral density and the diagnosis of "osteoporosis" emerges in nephrology as a new possibility "if results will impact clinical decisions". Obviously, it is still reasonable to perform a bone biopsy if knowledge of the type of renal osteodystrophy will be clinically useful (low versus high turnover-bone disease). However, it is now considered that the inability to perform a bone biopsy may not justify withholding antiresorptive therapies to patients with high risk of fracture. This view adds to the effects of parathyroid hormone in CKD patients and the classical treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism. The availability of new antiosteoporotic treatments bring the opportunity to come back to the basics, and the knowledge of new pathophysiological pathways [OPG/RANKL (LGR4); Wnt-ß-catenin pathway], also affected in CKD, offers great opportunities to further unravel the complex physiopathology of CKD-MBD and to improve outcomes
This book analyzes different phenomena that accompany urban renewal processes, based on a recognition of the difference between “the city”—understood as a set of buildings, facilities, and infrastructures —and “the urban”, a concept that alludes to a way of life that culturally manifests itself in the exercise of values and imaginaries that are committed to certain ways of social, political, environmental, cultural, and economic organization. It proposes a distinction between urban management and city management, taking into account the very divergence between renewing the city’s physical image —a commitment
undertaken by city management— and renewing its structural dynamics, which is the responsibility of urban management. Likewise, in the face of processes of territorial deconfiguration and the expulsion of populations that frequently accompany the so-called “urban renewal operations,” the study presents a critical and proactive reflection, aimed at researchers and authorities specialized in the field, in order to offer possible alternatives for the prevention and mitigation of their effects in a specific situation, seeking to propose the construction-appropriation of a city by all.CAPÍTULO 1

Bioavailability and systemic transport of oleanolic acid in humans, formulated as a functional olive oil
14 Páginas.-- 6 Figuras.-- 2 TablasEvidence of the pharmacological activity of oleanolic acid (OA) suggests its potential therapeutic application. However, its use in functional foods, dietary supplements, or nutraceuticals is hindered by limited human bioavailability studies. The BIO-OLTRAD trial is a double-blind, randomized controlled study with 22 participants that received a single dose of 30 mg OA formulated as a functional olive oil. The study revealed that the maximum serum concentration of OA ranged from 500 to 600 ng mL-1, with an AUC0-∞ value of 2862.50 ± 174.50 ng h mL-1. Furthermore, we discovered a physiological association of OA with serum albumin and triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRL). UV absorption spectra showed conformational changes in serum albumin due to the formation of an adduct with OA. Additionally, we demonstrated that TRL incorporate OA, reaching a maximum concentration of 140 ng mL-1 after 2-4 hours. We conjecture that both are efficient carriers to reach target tissues and to yield high bioavailability. This research is part of the R+D+i project PID2019-107837RB-I00, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation/Spanish National Research Agency, grant number MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/.
